Before kids, I only wore heels. Okay, there were a few instances of flip flops now and then, but really, I was always a heels girl. I collected them like treasures, and admired them lined up in my closet like you would admire art in a museum. I remember when flats made a big comeback, and I thought I would get a fabulous pair. I tried wearing them to the office, and all day long, I kept tripping over them. Needless to say, I went back to heels.
I covet my shoes. I also live in Los Angeles, which means that I drive… a lot. The problem is that when I drive, the black from the car mat tends to rub off on the right heel of my light-colored shoes. Am I alone here? This has happened with every car I have every driven. So, when I’m wearing pale shoes (like my fabulous nude patent leather Miu Miu pumps), I simply take off my right shoe, and rest it on the passenger seat next to me. Assuming no one is sitting there, of course! This way, my shoes stay in good shape while I’m battling traffic. I took this picture on the way back to the office after one of my recent speaking events at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). I’m sure the students there would sympathize with me here. After I park, I slip my shoe back on. No black smudges. My sly little shoe-saving secret is now out!
